The local context for residential demolition
Working against a shared party wall is the defining feature of almost every job in this category. Before any removal begins, a surveyor inspects the wall on both sides of the boundary and records its condition in a schedule agreed with the neighbouring owner, so that any damage caused during the work, or any pre-existing crack mistaken for new damage afterwards, is accounted for. A contractor then remove the addition using methods chosen to protect the shared wall specifically, favouring careful hand-breaking over the boundary line and machine work only on the section clearly within the client's own property.
